My readme
When I work alone
I remain calm under pressure.
Which means: never worry to deliver the bad news, I can handle it.
I know how to get things done.
I always have a sense of how to approach a problem, or at least where to begin. This doesn't mean the solution is immediately clear, but rather that I prefer to start thinking and taking action without delay
I tell the truth.
I'm not a fan of hidden agendas or office politics. While I understand how they operate and how to navigate them, I greatly value candor—sometimes even radical honesty.
I like to begin new things.
There’s nothing more exciting than starting something new. Fortunately, I’ve learned that finishing it is often even more important.
I carry out my plans.
As long as the plan remains relevant in light of new information, I’m a firm believer in taking action rather than leaving things open-ended.
When I work in a team
I am always prepared.
Always’ means 90% of the time, which translates to scheduled meetings. I believe preparation is a sign of respect for the meeting organizers. Without it, valuable time is wasted as we spend 20 minutes just getting everyone on the same page.
I prefer to get critical feedback.
Don't hesitate to bring the facts. Ideally, come prepared, and if you feel more comfortable in a 1:1 setting or prefer to send me an email or text, feel free to do so and just go for it.
I'm willing to try anything once.
Early in my career, I believed there was only one or two ways to solve a problem. Little did I know! :) If you have an idea that seems feasible, let’s give it a try!
I prefer independence to being micro-managed.
Both for me and people I'm working with. If you micro-manage too much it means the person is not ready or you are not ready. Either way, it's a problem.
I prefer humor to diffuse tense situations.
Tense situations exist but so does humor. I prefer to take some pressure off those. We should take life more lightly.
I'm not very nuanced or subtle.
Especially in situations where time is of importance I'm very straight forward and try to not loose time. Please be aware that I don't mean to intimidate anybody or ask you to behave the same way - it's simply my way to express passion.
Even when I disagree with others, I can admit that they have valid points.
I make rash decisions.
My career has been shaped by firefighting. Quick doesn't mean thoughtless, but rather decisive. The two proverbs that come to mind are: 'Done is better than perfect' and 'Strong convictions, loosely held.'
My beliefs
I look at the bright side of life.
When we wake up and see all the small and big problems around us, it can feel overwhelming. I prefer to focus on a positive vision of the future, which makes it easier to cope with the challenges we face.
I believe people should fend for themselves.
Taking action is hard but rewarding even if it's not successful. If you need any help with that let me know!
Creating something new is a core value for me.
New or incrementally better that opens up new ways of using a tool or process. I really love it!
I believe that there is no absolute right or wrong.
Especially over the course of time...
I have a vivid imagination.
And don't worry if what you want to share seems crazy or more, I'm sure I can follow you in the majority of cases.
I am not interested in theoretical discussions.
Now here's some context: I love diving into theories of any kind but when we work together I'd prefer to stay in the realm of the measurable and actionable.
I pay my bills on time.
This is a general principle that extends beyond just paying bills. I was raised in an environment where giving your word or shaking hands on an agreement signifies a commitment that must be honored.
I'd rather make mistakes and learn than not make mistakes.
Predictions are inherently complex, especially when it comes to the future. So let's focus on making predictions to learn, rather than to be right (inspired by Scott Galloway).
Logistics
My most productive time is in the morning.
And ideally I spend that time on focused work and not in meetings.
For day to day communication I prefer asynchronous channels (Email, Messenger, Text).
I do have a lot of ideas at random times and instead of making everybody crazy I rather push it into a channel. Note: I don't expect you to respond instantly but I'll be happy to get some sort of reaction, even if you just let me know that you're on it.
For new project discussions I prefer team meetings.
Let's get into a room (virtual or physical) and talk it out. And please don't be shy.
